The Book of Awakening
Having the life you want by being present in the life you have.
I’m recommending this book for two personal reasons, in keeping with my article about the origins of Ageless Mind project.
First, this is a series of poetic meditations for every day of the year, like a non-denominational daily prayer book. I enjoyed opening to today’s date and reading about “The Effort to Listen” and the suggestion to “take five minutes to stop making, stop doing, stop thinking…and just listen….”
When I read this entry next year, I’m sure it will mean something different to me. A daily reading like this encourages reflection – one of the most basic activities for designing an ageless mind.
Second, this book was given to me earlier this month by a cousin I barely knew until fairly recently. He was born just after World War II, the only child of my mother’s older brother. His mother died of breast cancer when he was just a few months old. (I don’t think they knew back then that pregnancy could trigger breast cancer.) He was truly a motherless child.
Somehow, we have reconnected – I don’t remember how it happened – and now I have gained, completely unexpectedly and with great delight, a “new” relative who is a kindred spirit. I am so grateful how this can happen at any time in life. - Lynne Berrett

Thank you, Lynne. Such a wonderful book.
Thanks for the heads up Lynne. Adding this to my next-to-read list.
