Welcome to Voices From the Field

Lynne
Welcome today to the Ageless Mind Project podcast, “Voices From the Field,” where we talk with a wide variety of proactive agers and experts to explore how each of us can design our own version of an ageless mind, one that's alert curious creative and ever growing. These brief podcasts are meant to give you tools to increase your well-being and quality of life at any age.

Today, Jena Ball, my co-producer, and I want to give you some AMP updates and introduce you to the new podcast and newsletter we'll be offering on Substack. We're delighted to be part of Substack, which does so much to encourage collaboration and collegiality among its members.

We'll be sharing a brief overview of our evolving ideas about how best to bring you, our subscribers, actionable information so you can design your own personal ageless minds and ways that will work best for you. We invite you to jump in and tell us what you're looking for too. The more we can all contribute to this project the richer we'll all be. Jena, would you introduce yourself to our listeners?

Jena
Sure, thanks Lynne. I think the best way to describe myself is as a multimedia storyteller. I was trained as an illustrator and journalist, so I've been telling stories in one way or the other for my entire career. But I'm particularly passionate about crafting narratives that allow me to advocate for kids and animals. My most recent work is on a Substack blog called “Whales in My Backyard,” which chronicles my adventures with the natural world.

Lynne
I have read that blog Jena, and it fascinates me. So, what got you interested in the Ageless Mind Project?

Jena
Well, the short answer is you. I've been following your work on Aging at whole brain health for more than 10 years now, and the idea of learning to age well through purposeful activities and programs intrigues me.

Lynne
I am so glad you've joined me on this.

Jena
We’re having a lot of fun aren't we?

Lynne
Yes! So we thought today we’d start off by  giving you, our listeners, a taste of what we're planning here on Substack.

Jena
Right, so is it okay if I jump in?

Lynne
Yes, please.

Jena
So in November we'll be focusing on the science of aging. Our first podcast will be a conversation with Steph Gasior, a molecular biologist and science educator who specializes in that topic. He's fantastic and has some really interesting reflections on how advances in longevity can affect how we view and live our lives. That podcast will air on the first Tuesday in November.

Lynne
Our goal is to choose a general topic or subject each month and again, to our audience, your input and your suggestions will be invaluable in helping us plan. We want to know what you'd like to learn and hear about and we will bring it to you.

Jena
Right! So there are three main ways we plan to interact with you:

  • Substack: Of course, this is where you'll find new and interesting content like podcasts, articles, stories, guest blogs, book suggestions.

  • The Ageless Mind Facebook Group called, Design Your Ageless Mind: design your ageless mind Facebook group. It’s a lot of fun and is where our community gathers to share thoughts, suggestions, and information about one another's work.

  • The AMP website: Then the last way is to go to our website where you can sign up for our announcements (at the bottom of every page) and get updates on our blogs as they are posted and check out helpful links and resources.

Lynne
So, to be repetitious we're counting on each of you to help us develop and shape this project. So if there's anything you particularly like or dislike we want to hear from you. You can always leave us a message in the comment section below or email us at AgelessMindProject@Gmail.com.

Jena
Yep, and one more thing before we go Lynne, I want to remind everyone that although subscriptions to this Substack will always be free, we hope you'll consider becoming a paid subscriber since AMP is a nonprofit that relies on the generosity of our supporters to pay for our operating costs.

Lynne
Thank you all for listening to our introduction to our new podcast, “Voices from the Field.” Be sure to like and subscribe to this podcast. The links to each of the sign-up forms and donation buttons can be found just below the image above.
