I’ve been a fan of the music of Candide for years. As a singer, and a Soprano at that, wrapping my voice around Cunegonde was always delicious. I’ve never seen an production though. I think my favorite element of this piece (which is so familiar to me musically) was watching Bernstein conduct. His hands, his face, his Hips!! There not a lick of work in his conducting. Rather, we watch sheer enjoyment riding on his creation. Truly wonderful

A nice exercise for the ageless mind is to sing along with the strings when they come in. And if you are more ambitious, you can also sing with the flutes and the horns. For those of us oldies who are listening to music on YouTube , it stretches our enjoyment and awareness to sing and dance with what we are hearing. At least that is true for me!
