“How glad I am to be able to roam in wood and thicket, among the trees, and flowers and rocks. No one can love the country as I do…My bad hearing does not trouble me here. In the country, every tree seems to speak to me, saying ‘Holy ! Holy!’ In the woods there is enchantment which expresses all things.” - Beethoven
Ageless Mind Project co-founder, Joshua Berrett - himself an accomplished musician and music historian - writes with compassion and insight about the lives of composers and the pieces they crafted. Most recently, he’s been exploring Beethoven's Symphony No. 6 in F, Op. 68 “Pastoral,” which was deeply influenced by the composer’s love of the natural world. In his most recent post, Berrett looks closely at the second through fifth movements in which Beethoven shares the almost “…unbearable the torment” he experienced as a result of going deaf. You can access the post, entitled Beethoven’s Love of Nature Part cont. by clicking HERE.
Josh’s piece fits nicely with our nature theme in which we’ve asked members of our community to share their relationships with the natural world and how those relationships affect their overall wellbeing. You can read all previous posts by clicking on the titles below:
